Suryakumar Yadav, the great batter for the Mumbai Indians (MI), is expected to report to camp for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in the next two days. He is expected to play in the forthcoming game on Sunday, April 7, at Wankhede Stadium against the Delhi Capitals (DC).
After more than three months away from cricket, the middle-order hitter received clearance on Wednesday from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Before approving Yadav, the NCA’s physiotherapists and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) carried out comprehensive assessments to make sure no risks were taken.
During the T20I series in South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav suffered a grade II tear in his ankle, which initially kept him out of action for seven weeks. But a second injury later surfaced, requiring a hernia operation that has prevented him from moving until today.
On January 17, Suryakumar had surgery in Munich, Germany, to repair a sports hernia. This process extended his time away from playing cricket. Given MI’s current dismal record in the competition while Hardik Pandya has been captain, his return is a huge advantage.
The Mumbai Indians have participated in three IPL 2024 games, all of which have ended in losses. To make matters worse for himself, Hardik Pandya has experienced a lack of support from MI supporters since taking over as captain from Rohit Sharma. The lone team without a victory in the competition is MI, which is currently ranked last in the IPL 2024 standings.
