The team’s social media accounts have been hinting about a name change for some time; the official and more colloquial “Bengaluru” is anticipated to replace the original “Bangalore”. They are currently a champion franchise as well. Even if the WPL crowning is a huge victory for the fan base and the brand, it is unlikely to have much of an impact on IPL 2024 aside from maybe the feelings.
Since the conclusion of the previous season, when a three-year streak of playoffs participation ended, there have been changes on the men’s side. As the head coach, Andy Flower arrived with a brilliant record. The new Director of Cricket is Mo Bobat. These changes were introduced with the aim to allow the new leadership group ample time to conduct a thorough analysis and create a blueprint for the team’s future before the rumored mega auction.
To extract any scrap of home advantage that the Chinnaswamy Stadium is unwilling to provide will be Flower and Bobat’s first task. They’ll also have to accomplish it against a nearly completely new bowling squad that seems to lack spin power. It’s a problem with a potential solution, though. Teams like MI and CSK have historically accumulated enough hitting talent in the XI to compensate for inferior bowling arms. Would RCB take that course? With the addition of Rajat Patidar and the exchange of Cameron Green, they have adequate strength along the Kohli-du Plessis-Maxwell axis. If the squad wants to make history in the IPL 2024, they just need to step up and align.
